I have a new Waiheke Studio and I'm opening it to the public for the first time on Sat Aug 22. I will be showing a range of new works, plus works from all stages of my career. Would love to see you there.
Every second Thursday of the month, the Parnell Business Council is promoting Parnell as the Art Hub of Auckland. My work will be featured at the Demoroom at 168 Parnell Road. All galleries in Parnell will be open until 7.30. Its a great night to bring a friend, enjoy the art and have a glass of wine. See you there.
I would like to congratulate Heidi Drew on winning the 'Serenity' painting at last weekends Wine Festival. I would like to thanks everyone who entered - I look forward to meeting you all in the near future.
Election day in Parnell this year falls on the same day as the annual Roses Festival. The x5 Exhibition will be open from 10 till 4.30. Only 2 days left, so now is the time to visit if you haven't had a chance to come in yet.
Josh on Sunrise got us all out of bed way earlier than any self respecting artist would normally face the world. All are welcome to attend the opening function tomorrow night, Thursday the 31st of Nov. 168 Parnell Road, from 5.30 onwards.

The five of us join together for our first Auckland Group show. Fuji Xerox, Heards building, Grove Mill Wine and Empire PR are making it possible. Thanks to them all!
I took up residency on Waiheke last week. Feeling about as blessed as an artist can be. I've started working on the collection for my Auckland show this November. I'm looking forward to seeing how the different light and peace will be articulated in my work.
To my absolute delight, I have been offered a private Art Residency on Waiheke Island starting at the end of next month. Yay. Can't wait to paint there.
Our senses would tell us the earth is flat, that we are stationery, that the sun revolves around us. Our senses also tell us that we are separate from each other, that our thoughts are distinct from our bodies, that time exists because we see it when we look at a clock. I'm beginning to understand all these things are just as much an illusion as living on a flat earth. The paintings I'm working on at the moment are a study of this idea. What really is 'true' and 'real' and what is simply made up to make 'sense' of what we see, feel, taste and smell? Fun things to think about....
The summer just gone was my introduction to the frustrating pleasure of surfing. Its not unlike painting in that its kind of easy to imagine how it works (I can usually see very clearly a painting in my head before making it) but bringing everything together at exactly the same time to get that rush down the wave (or the perfect mixture of composition, colour and light) is an elusive thing. Once hooked though...I'm not sure I'll ever look back.
Feel free to drop into Exhibitions Gallery in Featherston Street to check out Denis Robinson's latest publication of New Zealand's Favourite Artists. I am on the back page! My first publication...my Mum is so proud!
I LOVE his work. Check out this link to see the latest on what he's been up to. What a true artist.
NZ House and Garden have very generously featured me in the 2007 Christmas issue. Click here to see a .pdf of the article.

Many thanks to all those who attended the Scaffidi Foundation exhibition to raise money for families dealing with cancer. It was a wonderful evening - and was just the beginning of my relationship with the Foundation. I look forward to doing another exhibition next year.
I would like to thank Fisher Galleries for hosting the opening of my exhibition and the brand launch of Transact last night. It was fantastic to show my work and to introduce Transact to a packed gallery.
On October 25 Australian abstract painter Anne-Marie Jean and I will hold an exclusive, one night only fundraising exhibition for the Scaffidi Foundation. We have set a target of raising $100,000 to help families living with cancer.
Anne-Marie and I are donating 50 per cent of proceeds from works sold. In addition, Anne-Marie is donating 100% of a large painting and I a $50,000 commission. This commission will make a huge difference to the families supported by the Foundation. Please contact me if you would like to contribute to the foundation by way of a commissioned Emma Wright painting.
Paintings will be for sale through silent auction on the night, however you can purchase all paintings before the opening night. Click here, or visit my gallery page to see my work, visit Anne Maries website to see her paintings or go to the Scaffidi website for more information.
I am thrilled to be having an exhibition at Fisher Galleries in Oct in conjunction with the brand launch of TransAct. As a New Zealander, I love bringing creativity to both my art (a given) and my business. I find the kiwi attitudes of determination and innovation a constant inspiration. TransAct in my opinion are are great example of an exciting Kiwi business and I'm proud to be associated with them. I will be showing 15 new works and they will be talking about their company. The evening promises to be fun, entertaining and welcoming. Visit my gallery page to see images of paintings in the exhibition.
In conjunction with the Scaffidi Foundation, I am having a fund-raising exhibition in Melbourne Oct 25. Angela, a gorgeous friend of mine from Melbourne started the Scaffidi Foundation in memory of her Mother and Sister. It is a privilege to be able to help support Ange and the work of the Foundation.
In a lovely - if you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours - arrangement, Experience (an online branding business) and I, have been having fun. Next month, I'll hang a bunch of my art on their empty white walls (just crying out for some art), so you can walk in off the street and check out new work. And they get to enjoy my art 24/7. Look out for you invite in your inbox to come celebrate our arrangement over a drink or two. If you are not on my mailing list, just email me and you'll get an invite.
Thanks to all who attended my LA show at the Hollywood Acting and Production Studio, 2 Rooms, last night. The room was packed, the Melville Wine was enjoyed and the Art looked fantastic in the space. A huge thanks to Chad and Kirk for making the whole thing possible.
I have been invited by 2 Rooms Talent Agency in Hollywood to have a private show on Friday June 8. The day before I leave LA. If you are interested in attending this show, please contact me. The show is strickly by invite only - we having limited space. Samsara are providing wine, so it promises to be a fun evening.
For the first time since being in LA, a lack of car stung me. I had intended to go to the infamous Venice Art Walk. However, I just couldn't get there on public transport, so opted for the less famous Beverley Hills Art Fair. Still a good day out, but probably not the experience that Vencie promised.
My first US show (very excited) is in Santa Monica this Thursday May 17. The show is 10 Kiwi Artist's who live in LA. Please contact me if you would like to attend or need more information.
Visiting the East Coast was like going to another country. Intense, busy and full of energy. My heart rate increased about 10 beats a second just flying into the airport. Another 10 crossing the bridge into the city and 10 more walking amongst the buildings. Give me a studio and an apartment, and I'd live there in an instant! The place has energy like nowhere else on earth. I visited the Guggenheim and MOMA. Soaking up the experience. Seeing paintings I've only looked at reproduced is a blessing - it never fails to touch me how moving the art work is.
So far I am LOVING LA. In a week and a half I've managed to visit the
first Frank Lloyd Wright house built in LA, befriend a script writer,
negotiate the freeways on the wrong side of the road in a hybrid super
low carbon emitting Toyota, stand awe-struck in front of a Damien
Hurst exhibition (for a cool coupla mil one could have been mine)
drunk a few bad coffees and a few good margaritas and parties with the
crew from scrubs. I'm looking forward to the next few months...stay
tuned.
One of the main reasons for being in LA is to check out the art scene over there. I will go to as many galleries and shows as I can and I'll write about my experiences and opinions regularly on this blog.
Next Sunday I head to LA for three months! So excited. The main reason for the trip is to visit LA galleries, get new energy and ideas and experience painting in a new environment. I plan to have an exhibition of the work I paint while I'm there. I will keep details of the show updated on my site.
2007 calendars of my lastest work are now ready for order. If you would like a calendar or to see a .pdf, please email me. Calendars are $25 (plus postage if you live outside of Wellington) and will be printed in time for Christmas.
Exhibited for the first time on Sat Nov 4, Jason and I recieved great feedback for our installation project. If you would like to view it please email me.
The ARMS website, a great resource for any artist or creative person, is currently running a feature article about how I’ve put the principles from their fabulous courses into practice. Check out www.arms.org.nz.
I was recently involved in a fundraising evening for Child Cancer hosted by the Onslow Tar Babies (a cycling group I occasionally ride with) where a painting I donated was auctioned for $1500. I was delighted by the opportunity to contribute.
