The point ‘You are what you eat’ misses and why it matters
You are what you eat. Really?
Our opinions, friendships, the love we have for our family, the places we’ve traveled, the grief of losing those we’ve lost, our genetics, the conversations we’ve had, the jokes we’ve laughed at, the movies we like, the books we’ve read, the topics we’ve studied, the instruments we’ve mastered, the theories we’ve developed. The kind of clothes we like to wear, our economic status, the degrees we’ve gained during our years of study, the heartbreaks we’ve had, the projects we’ve worked on, the jobs we’ve done, the emails we’ve sent, the air I’ve breathed, the battles we’ve fought, the children we’ve borne, the lives we’ve led.
None of that counts for who we are? The only thing that makes us who we are is what we eat?
What goes in our mouths accounts for very little of who we really are.
Let’s stop acting like nutrition is the be-all and end-all. And start seeing it as a beautiful, small part of a rich, wide, diverse whole.

My name is Emma, The Body Confidence Coach and I run the 10,000 Mothers Club. I believe that if 10,000 mums help shift cultural narratives about bodies, our kids will grow up on healthier, happier planet. While we may be small now, we have the power to grow and change the world. I hope you’ll come join us.
